This school year has been exciting and quickly moving. It has been my pleasure and honor to get to know each of the Cedar Room students. We have laughed and learned, hopefully the memories have been good and lasting. The month of May was spent polishing our play lines from memory, learning about a “stage presence” and projecting our somewhat timid voices. Confidences have grown in many ways. Highlights were:   planting in the school […]

WHOOOSSHH!  The month of April just flew by. I hope everyone had a calm but fun week off. We heard about all the adventures the children experienced. Bravo, Parents!! The visiting Kindergartners started to arrive the first week in April. It was a pleasure to see them each day and watch their curiosity. Our month of March started by celebrating Dr. Seuss and spending the day in our jammies.       What a way to begin! Learning in comfortable attire…..so fun. We extended the Dr. Seuss silliness to Apple Rehab Center on Friday, March 7th. The residents had fun listening to the “Bartholemew and the Ooblek” story followed by the making of real green ooblek that we put our hands into and oozed through our fingers. This grossed out […]

February was a short month but a very full month.  It started with two snow days in a row. Getting back in the groove, so to speak, the children continued working on their biography research and presentations. They are becoming accustomed to recording facts on an index card. The big days came and were enjoyed by all, as the cameras rolled and the costumes adorned. The children shared their newly found facts with pride. Everyone took […]

“People usually consider walking on water or in thin air a miracle. But I think the real miracle is not to walk either on water or in thin air, but to walk on earth. Every day we are engaged in a miracle which we don’t even recognize: a blue sky, white clouds, green leaves, the black, curious eyes of a child — our own two eyes.  All is a miracle.”  – Thich Nhat Hanh Happy February!  It […]

January brought us many reasons to stay inside, keep warm and complete our study of a warmer climate like Australia. The children explored many aspects of this fascinating continent. They particularly enjoyed the animal research. Many maps were traced, detailed and displayed. One project was to paint the basic five layers of the ocean depths. Each child chose an ocean creature to research and specifically identified which layer it most often resided in. Our display […]

The month of October has brought us closer to a “normalized” classroom. This is a Montessori term that means the students know what to do in a work environment, and realize what the expectation is for them as independent learners. There is peace, confidence and security in watching this unfold. We explored real worms. Drew them, labeled the parts of them, and named them. Giovanna named hers, “Chandelier.”  Others sent their worm on wild adventures. This […]
