Teach the Montessori Way at Home

Have a curious preschooler that likes to discover? Here is a fun activity from our preschool classroom that you can easily recreate at home. Your child can find out which objects float or sink by conducting their own scientific experiment.

What you need:

  • A large jar filled with 2 inches of water
  • A strainer
  • 2 Trays, with picture cards that explain the float and sink concepts
  • Some water-proof objects that either float or sink, like a cork, a rock, a small saucer, a small ball, some play food items, and other small toys that may be found around the room.
  • A water-proof apron

Teach your child the concept of floating and sinking,  test a couple of items with them and place them in the appropriate tray.  They will have a lot of fun exploring you might even get your dishes done.
